‘How much money do you have with you?’ He asked, busily scrounging through his wallet, a frown furrowing his brow.
‘I have nothing, only a $20 note I keep for traffic emergencies,’ she said.
‘Hmm, we’ll have about S/.150 ($50) to last us a week in Lima, and we’ll leave the girls the last of what we have for emergencies here while we’re gone.’
She felt her heart sink a little. A few days away, even for a conference was a treat. Shame that everything, even just getting around in Lima was so expensive. There wouldn’t be any spare for anything extra. Oh well, never mind. They’d get through.
The phone rang. A dear friend from church asking if they were home. They had to catch the bus in an hour.
He ran down the nine flights of stairs to meet the friend. He came back, a grin on his face, the furrows eased.
‘Our God’s done it again, hasn’t he?’ she asked, her heart giving a little leap.
‘Yep!’
‘What’s happened?’ a yawny voice emerged from the depths of a teenage afternoon nap.
‘Our friend just dropped off S/.500 ($175) for us,’ he said.
‘What! You’re kidding me! Who DOES that!’ came the amazed cry.
‘God,’ she said, her heart brimming into her eyes. He knew! His faithfulness wrapped around her, pulling her into a warm embrace. I know your heart dear one! Oh, how he knows me!
This wasn’t the first time this particular friend just ‘happened’ to feel led to give to them. The miracles still blow her away, every single time.
A young couple with their one-year old baby are preparing to go to Iraq. He preached at church last week, his excitement oozing over us. He preached on Luke 10, Jesus sending out the seventy-two.
‘Go!’ he says. ‘Don’t take a purse or bag or sandals.’ Why? Because for those who go in his name, he delights in blowing them, and their yawny teenage kids, away with his faithful provision, often above and beyond what they need, every single time. Great, is his faithfulness.

Thanks Mum! I remember times when I was growing up when things like this would happen. He is faithful yesterday, today and tomorrow!
