A little girl stood on the shore of her island home and looked to the horizon. She breathed deeply the salty, crisp air as the wind whipped through her long blonde hair, and on her exhale was a question. What lay beyond that line?
Her imagination filled with strange lands and tongues and peoples, waiting for her to know. Yet to cross that ocean, she thought, there would be difficulties and challenges, there would be leaving and grieving, loneliness and pain. There would also be adventure, fun and discovery! There would be places and people so beautiful, she’d be left speechlessly in awe.
She grew up with those images stamped on her heart, indeed, they’ve never left her. She has stood on many different shores, met many people and has oft times been speechlessly in awe.
She married a man with eyes like the sea after a storm. He stood on a shore with her, his own heart pulled towards that line. Three tiny bundles of love arrived and here the woman, no longer a girl, began her What If’s. What if what was beyond that line was not safe for the offspring? What if they got sick, what if they were stolen? What about their education? What if?
Her God, who made her with those soft blue eyes still fixed on that line, whispered, ‘Do you trust me? I’ll be with you; I love your offspring more then you.’
She went. Going has brought tears and joy, deep growth and trust and stories, so many stories! Sit for a while, in this quiet place. She’ll tell you a story or two, so that you may find a kindred heart, as you go on your journey, into the heart of God.
