‘It has to get ugly and dirty before it can be beautiful again,’ he said as the dust settled around them. Plaster board lay in heaps around the hollowed out remains of the kitchen. Electrical wires hung from the ceiling and skeletal studs stood exposed along the wall.
‘I suppose so, it’s just such a mess,’ she said.
‘That’s construction for you,’ he answered.
The rawness of the scene matched the one playing inside her. Her world stripped away, her home, her identity.
‘There’s no going back now is there?’ she said.
‘Would you want to?’
She looked at the rubble and tried to imagine the new kitchen in its place. Something fresh and new, a huge island bench she could picture stirring something delicious while chatting with faceless new friends swinging around on stools.
‘No,’ she answered. ‘It’s just messy.’
It’s messy and uncomfortable this starting again. It’s a stripping away of things that she wears like old clothes. She feels vulnerable and exposed. What is she going to look like in this new place, what is she going to do, who is she going to be?
One thing she knows is she has a very skilled carpenter. One who knows her shape and form. She’s impatient, she wants to rush ahead.
I make all things beautiful, in my time.
She hands him the hammer and invites Him to build.

Thanks so much dear Alison your a legend in story writing and I’m hungry now to see the finished product. Goes to show I can’t stand the mess to long and always love to see things finished and all beautiful. When I start something I am not happy until it’s done and I will work till late at night to get some project finished, but that’s me in everything I start. Once I commit to something I know God will give me the energy to go all the way and give me the time to do it.
I hope you will send pictures of your kitchen when it’s finished, love you and keep trusting God during these uncertain and difficult times. With love from Annelies

Beautiful as usual, Alison. And challenging. Who wants precious comfortable things to be chipped away? They provide our security! And therein lies the problem. Our true security is only in Jesus. I need to remember that – especially now. Thank you.
