‘You know, there is no way you can possibly deny the hand of God on your life don’t you,’ she says to her daughter.
The daughter smiles and nods in agreement. ‘Yeah, I guess so.’
The daughter had no idea at the beginning of the year what her life would look like. A new country, a new life. After applying for many jobs with no success, her idea of a gap year faded. Her IB results come in, and it ‘just so happens’ they are better than expected. She receives an offer into her course of preference.
‘Maybe I’ll go to Uni this year after all.’
She walks with her daughter and they see a little café ‘La Empanada’. A link with Peru, a food known. They enter. They speak Spanish with the Ecuadorian owners.
She says, ‘Well, if you’re ever looking for help…’.
The daughter ‘just so happens’ to land a part time job alongside a Peruvian chef in a Spanish speaking café.
First day of Uni and it’s all overwhelming.
‘Can you come and pick me up?’
‘It’ll all get better from here,’ she says as she hugs that teary girl. ‘You’ll see’.
The next day she finds the lecture theatre she needs to be in. Out of hundreds, a girl sits next to her. She ‘just so happens’ to know her brother and goes to the same church. She invites her to lunch and introduces more friends.
The mother steps back in awe at the answered prayer. Gratitude spills. There’s only One who can go before and prepare a place, people and provision.
If He can do it for her daughter, He can do it for her too. He can do it in the midst of absolute uncertainty and times never experienced in her lifetime. She thinks of His brilliance, His presence, His promise and His faithful hand. She fixes her eyes on Him and places her hand in His.
Thank you, Alison.
