She was days away from the event and her mind was anxiously churning. She’d noticed some names on the list whom she had had some slightly unpleasant dealings in the past. Insecurity raised its ugly head and roared into her ears.
‘You are less than. Not good enough. You’ve put on extra weight I see.’
She sinks a little.
‘I have the latest, tailormade clothes, perfect makeup and hair, my family name is renown. I AM SOMEONE,’ the voice continues.
She sinks a little further.
‘What do I have Lord?’ she asks from the depths.
Words fill the space where she has sunk. ‘You have love.’
She smiles. Oh, and she has that in spades!
That love lifts her out of her sink hole.
The day arrives. Her reading just so happens to be 1 Corinthians 13. It’s all about HAVING love. And He IS love.
Her heart’s so full it’s going to burst! She clothed herself carefully in love, made up her face and did her hair with that love bubbling inside her.
‘You look cute,’ said the teenager.
‘It’s because I’m loved,’ she beamed.
And she beamed and bubbled that love out at the event. She couldn’t help herself! Others were clothed with love at her table too. Two separate recipients grasp her hand as she leaves.
‘I want to visit your church,’ they both say. She hopes they do. She knows they’ll find the thing that silences insecurity and beats the latest fashion any day. She prays they’ll know love and have it in spades!
1 Corinthians 13: 1-8
